/// THE CORE CONCEPT WHAT TO DESIGN

What You See vs. What You Submit

Understanding how variable participant numbers merge with your base artwork is the key to a perfect print run.

Want an awesome bib like this?

This is the final physical bib after our high-speed variable data press merges your base graphics with sequential runner numbers, participant names, division tags, and barcodes.

⚙ PRINT-READY FILE What to Upload
Bib Print Ready Layout with Bleed and Variable Data Zone 🔍 Enlarge

Did you know it has to be designed like this?

Your base artwork must have no flattened runner numbers, no template guide lines, and 1/8″ bleed on all edges. Dynamic text is mapped separately during production.

!

Why does this separation matter?

Our variable digital press dynamically generates thousands of unique participant numbers, custom barcodes, and corral codes directly from your athlete roster. If numbers are hardcoded or flattened into your background image, we cannot replace them automatically without costly delays or manual redesign fees.

/// PRODUCTION CHECKLIST BEST PRACTICES

5 Essential Rules for Flawless Files

Avoid the most common file setup issues by checking these standard print specifications.

02

Include 1/8″ Bleed (1/4″ Extra Overall)

Bleed is the artwork area that extends beyond the final cut line. Industrial cutting blades have tiny mechanical tolerances; if artwork is designed only to the exact finished cut size, white slivers may appear along the edges.

✔ Correct Bleed Setup Add 1/8″ (0.125″) to all 4 edges. Your total canvas size will be 1/4″ (0.25″) wider and taller than finished trim.
✖ Designing to Cut Size Do not design strictly to finished cut size. Extending flattened complex artwork after the fact is rarely possible without distortion.
03

Preferred Software & Native Formats

We strongly prefer native layered vector and raster files: Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Photoshop (.psd), InDesign (.indd), or high-res Layered Print PDF.

✔ Zip All Assets Together Package your artwork, font files, and mockups into a single .zip file for quick, one-click upload during checkout.
✖ Template Lines Visible Remember to hide or delete the red template cut/safe guidelines layer before exporting your final print file!
04

Choose Fonts from Google Fonts

For variable runner numbers, athlete names, emergency medical fields, and age divisions, we recommend choosing from Google Fonts (fonts.google.com).

✔ Specify Font Name Simply enter the Google Font name (e.g., Bebas Neue, Oswald, Montserrat) in your order notes or upload the .ttf/.otf.
✖ Custom Unknown Fonts If you use an unlisted proprietary font without providing font files or specifying the name, font substitutions will be required.
05

Guidelines for AI-Generated Artwork

Using Midjourney, DALL-E, ChatGPT, or Adobe Firefly to create your event art? AI tools are great for stunning backgrounds, but follow these rules before uploading:

✔ Prompt Clean Backgrounds Instruct AI to generate textures/illustrations without text. Upscale to 300 DPI at the full bleed dimensions.
✖ Low-Res AI Mockups Do not upload 72 DPI browser screenshots or images with AI-hallucinated fake numbers baked across the center.
